THE SHORT ANSWER
- A scoped Colorbull client portal or booking PWA starts at $5,000. Actual costs depend on workflows, identity and integrations.
- Independent portal operations begin at $350/month; cloud and vendor consumption are defined separately.
- A customer portal does not automatically need native iOS or Android store distribution.
A customer portal should solve a recurring task. That might be booking a visit, checking a service request, uploading required information or managing an account. A project that makes these tasks simpler for customers and staff has a clearer business case than an app built only to give the company an icon.
What Colorbull’s starting price represents
A focused client portal or booking web app starts at $5,000. The final proposal follows the number of distinct customer journeys, staff responsibilities, identity rules and system connections involved.
A first release might provide secure account access, an appointment request or booking journey, confirmations, and a staff-facing path for handling exceptions. It does not implicitly include a full enterprise CRM, complex accounting automation, unlimited integrations or both mobile app stores.
The first question should be: which tasks need to work reliably on day one?
Which requirements increase the cost?
Scheduling rules. A simple appointment request and a real-time multi-resource booking engine are different products. Locations, capacity, staff availability, travel buffers, group sessions, waitlists, deposits and cancellation windows introduce business rules that need testing.
Customer identity. A portal handling private records needs authentication, recovery and permissions. Families, branches, employers and separate customer organizations may introduce additional roles and consent requirements.
Connected systems. A booking confirmation is not complete if the appointment fails to reach the system used by staff. We identify the authoritative calendar or CRM, available APIs, retry behavior and what a customer should see if synchronization fails.
Transactions. Card collection, refunds, taxes, subscriptions and accounting reconciliation require a defined payment workflow. A form is not the same as a payment or inventory system.
Notifications. Email, SMS and push have different customer permissions, provider costs and delivery characteristics. We price them by the events and channels a business actually needs.
A web portal or a downloadable mobile app?
For repeated booking and customer-account tasks, an accessible browser-based portal is often the simplest starting point. A progressive web app may be installable on supported devices, but that does not mean it is automatically approved for the Apple App Store or Google Play.
A separate mobile application is more appropriate when device-specific capabilities, offline workflows or frequent field use justify the additional distribution and maintenance burden. See our mobile development guide for how those decisions change the build.
What happens after launch?
A functioning portal needs monitoring, backups and operational ownership. Colorbull’s managed portal service starts at $350/month, separate from the original construction price and from the $75, $500 and $1,500 website management tiers.
Cloud consumption, payment providers, communication charges and additional development are detailed in the operating agreement. Larger applications receive individual support and infrastructure proposals.
If you want to change providers later, source ownership, account access, data export and any transition work should already be clear.
How to prepare a useful portal brief
Bring a description of the customers who will use it, the three or four recurring tasks they need to complete, the existing calendar or CRM, and the people inside the business responsible for exceptions.
We then define a first release with observable acceptance conditions rather than a long feature wishlist. Review Client Portals & Booking Systems to see the service model or request an assessment to discuss an actual project.
